Instructor Profile:

Andrew started training in Karate under the instruction of Sensei Terry Jones and Sensei Lyn Johnson back in 1986. The club was part of the Karate Union of Wales under Sensei Mike O’Brien. Andrew has trained with Sensei Taiji Kase and Sensei Dave Hazard, experiences he will never forget.

He achieved his 1st Dan black belt in 1992 and enjoyed and continued to training for a couple of years after that. However, for reasons of work and family commitments he stopped training for quite a while. It wasn’t until his Nephew started training, at the same club, that he went along to just say “hello” but found myself once again standing in a line donning a gi under the instruction of Sensei Paul Davies.

In October of 2012 Sensei Paul retired from instructing and that’s when Andrew took over the club. It was at that time he discovered the Welsh Karate Union under Sensei Paul Watson. After meeting up with Sensei Paul and attending one of his classes he immediately knew that this was the direction he wanted to go.

Since joining the WKU Andrew has achieved his 2nd Dan and is more committed than ever to learn as much as he can about the art. Sensei Andrew said “I would like thank all the members of the WKU for making us feel so welcome and I am excited to see what the future holds”.
